I am a Melbourne based artist working in both oil and watercolour, drawn to a wide range
of subject matter — essentially, whatever inspires me in the moment. While my work is
largely representational, I often explore the space between realism and abstraction,
seeking to develop a personal visual language that expresses the world as I experience it.
My passions are the portrait/figure and the Australian landscape – particularly plein air
painting. A deep respect for the traditions of observational drawing and painting informs
everything I do, along with a strong commitment to craftsmanship, materials, and process.
I place great importance on teaching the correct use of materials and processes and
encourage deep understanding of painting traditions.
My work is held in both private and public collections across Australia and overseas and
career highlights include winning the Castlemaine James Farrell Self Portrait Prize, the
prestigious A.M.E. Bale Travelling Scholarship and Art Prize, and being named the
Victorian Artists Society Artist of the Year.
